Geert Wilders

Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician, was recently taken to court for hate speech against Muslims. Today he was acquitted. Wilders is head of the PVV, the Dutch Freedom Party, which is currently the third most popular party in the Netherlands. Wilders is famous for his controversial statements about Islam, such as:

“Islam is not a religion, it’s an ideology, the ideology of a retarded culture. I have a problem with Islamic tradition, culture, ideology. Not with Muslim people.”

“Why are we afraid to say that muslims should adapt because our norms and values are of a higher, better, nicer and more humane level of civilisation? Not integration, assimilation! And if the headscarves will protest on the Malieveld, let them come. I’ll have them for breakfast.”

“If it ever may come to racial riots, which I really don’t want, then this doesn’t necessarily have to have a negative result.”

Just to remind you that this guy’s party is the 3rd most popular party in the Netherlands.

  1. Arrrghhhh hate hate HATE Geert Wilders… sadly the racist part in Denmark (Danish People’s Party, y’know, just if you were in doubt what their stance is) is also 3rd or 4th largest party, and gets about 10% of the vote 😦 and they’re HUGE fans of Wilders!

What if Wilders isn’t a racist? What if the word ‘religion’ is like the word “Sport”.
in that it is a broad catch all that can be used to describe wildly differing activities, as badminton is as different from rugby so Islam is different from Christianity. To have antipathy for any for anything from a position of ignorance is an idiocy, to accept and assume something is benign from a similar position of ignorance is equally idiotic. Islam orthadoxy as expressed through sharia five major schools of thought functions as both a spiritual practice and with it’s temporal dictates a socio-political ideology.

Try reading Tarek Fateh’s “Chasing a Mirage”, He’s a moderate muslim Canadian, Who isn’t afraid to criticizes Islam, particularly islamic law, which he acknowledges reduces women to the status of chattel, institutionalizes child marriage, FGM, slavery among other atrocities. These are among the problems with having large numbers of believers into your country. When Wilders refers to the superiority of Western Culture, he is speaking of things like Gender equality, the West’s innovative capacity, the creation of mass education systems for their populations corresponding efforts at universal health care services for their peoples. As a

Islam is a belief system as opposed to a race or sexual orientation, it is voluntary while our genetic composition are involuntary, beyond our capacity to change or control. Belief in islam is not equatable to either skin color or sexual orientation, as a belief system is composed of …beliefs which like the institutionalization of rape in marriage, (see Afgan marriage law controversy) discrimination against religious minorities( Christians in pakistan, check on reductions in the populations of Hindus and Sikhs in pakistan and bangladesh from 1948 to now, as well conditions for Copts in Eygpt) can be reason to feel antipathy toward islam and produce in people a feeling of responsibility within people like Wilders to combat the growth of islam within their society.

check out Sam Harris on islam, he is a little less easy to dismiss as an islamophobe.

      Please back this up.

So because Islam is supposedly a “choice” it is okay to discriminate (legally and non-officially) against Muslims? The rhetoric Wilders is using led to a Holocaust 50 years ago in Europe.
